The battle is on! As Tim Duncan ends his term as Chairman of the Republican National Committee, two names come to mind as to who will replace him: former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich and former Lt. Governor of Maryland Michael Steele. Those who are close to each candidate feel like there needs to be a new face to represent and strengthen the Party under the Obama administration.

Those who support Newt say that he has a knack for new ideas and exuberance. Those who support Steele say that he has the look that will propel the party forward and stronger. One blogger is not too fond of Newt as the Chairman. Ross Douthat of the Atlantic wrote a column explaining that he was appalled at Gingrich's list of things that the Republicans must do.

The list is here:

I don't see anything wrong with the list, which includes repealing the gas tax over the summer, holding an earmark moratorium for a year, and cutting funding to the Census Bureau ( Newt says that the Bureau is inefficient).
The battle will continue on for a while, but either way the new Chairman must bring the Party together stronger than ever, hopefully back to the way it was under Ronald Reagan.
